Infrastructure: Vacuum Preloading Method

Vacuum preloading is one of the effective technologies for consolidating soft foundation. After vacuum preloading, the bearing capacity of the ground can reach to 80 kPa, which meets the design requirement for most of goods yards, warehouse, low-rise industrial and civil constructions.

In comparison with conventional surcharge preloading, vacuum preloading has some remarkable advantages like:

nThe increase in effective stress is equal-axial; the lateral pressure is therefore compressive one.

nThere is no shear failure and the preloading can be applied at a rapid rate.

The vacuum preloading method is cheaper and faster than the fill surcharge method for an equivalent load in suitable areas.
